A Timeless Story – Written in Wood

For almost 200 years, nature has been writing its story – in every centimeter of this tree trunk, now our reception desk. Touch the bark, feel the time that has passed, and let yourself be enchanted by one of its countless stories. That sense of wonder captured me long ago – and I am delighted to share it with you.
Those who know the BelArosa Chalet are wellaware of our passion for reclaimed wood. For many years now, hand-hewn,sun-weathered spruce beams and antique oak have found their way to Arosa.Around 200 years old, they whisper of granaries and of the lives of people longpast. And recently, another remarkable companion has joined us in our lobby – atrue centerpiece of Alpine hospitality: weighing 800 kilograms, stretching sixmeters in length, and measuring 130 centimeters in diameter – our reception, whereyou, dear guest, are warmly welcomed.
Over nearly 190 years, Mother Nature shaped andnurtured this single trunk, centimeter by centimeter.
While we searched tirelessly for that specialfocal point – a calm and steady presence to greet and bid farewell – natureguided us once again.

A Journey Through Time
Over nearly 190 years, Mother Nature shaped andnurtured this single trunk, centimeter by centimeter. When this tree began to sprout around 1830, theJuly Revolution shook France, a king was overthrown, and the ripple effectswere felt across Europe. When this tree began to sprout around 1830, the July Revolution shook France, a king was overthrown, and the ripple effects were felt across Europe. The industrial revolution gathered speed, and the British explorer John Biscoe sighted the Antarctic mainland.
This tree has lived through two world wars and countless brighter days. How many couples lost themselves in the shade of its mighty crown? How many children claimed it, if only for a short while, as their own kingdom?

For me, it is nearly impossible to grasp what190 years truly mean. And yet nature does so effortlessly – still today.
The Warmth of Wood
Wood, a renewable resource, has always been partof human life. Gradually we learned to use it as building material, as shelter,as a companion.
At the BelArosa Chalet, reclaimed wood surrounds you. It invites you to immerse yourself in its unique warmth – in the stories whispered by each beam, revealed when you trace the notches with your fingers. Or when you rest your hands on our reception desk – a 190-year journey through time.

A Natural Masterpiece
This trunk, this anchor of stillness, was not felled for us. It had already been lying in storage with our partner for some time. And perhaps because of this, we have reused this extraordinary creation of nature with reverence, humility, and respect. Preserved in its raw, powerful form – authentic and majestic
